Is blocking a girl in coed hoops a legit move?

Get that weak stuff out of here

Get that weak stuff out of here

For those that don’t know, Big Ticket and I play on the same company basketball team.  We have a summer basketball league where there are ten teams worth of company employees that play once a week for the length of the summer.  There are standings, playoffs, basically it is like an Ivy League game-a bunch of white dudes who think they are much smarter than they are.

Now this is a coed league, which means that there are girls on the courts at all times.  I’ve never really liked coed sports for this very reason.  It’s a no win situation.  If you play hard and punk a girl, you are more hated than a Vegan at a Barbeque.  But if you let a girl score, you are equally hated not only by your teammates for not playing hard, but by the girl for going easy on her and treating her like she was a 12 year old infant with stubs for legs.

Well our very own Big Ticket came upon this dilemma in our coed basketball game.  We were winning 14-8 (we play by 1s and 2s to 21) when a girl on the other team pump faked our girl out of her mini skirt and drove by her for an open layup.  Or at least she thought it was open.  Little did she know that lurking on the weak side was the Dikembe Mutombo of our summer league.  A monster so vicious that even Hercules from the Sandlot (the dog that eats the kids’ baseballs) would have shuttered in his sight.  His name: The Big Ticket.  Our boy Ticket lept up towards the ball and slammed the ball straight down into the ground.  Now, I’m not one to exaggerate, but I’m pretty sure it was the direct cause of the L.A. earthquake.  This ball was blocked with such force that it bounced off the ground higher than the basket.  Ticket jumped up and retrieved it and may or may not have given a hearty Joker-like cackle.

The girl is still probably scouring the courts for her pride and dignity which brings me to an important question: Can a guy block a girl in such a ferocious manner in a coed game?  I think it is a delicate matter.  Obviously if it is a girl that you are interested in romantically it is a big no-no.  That would be dumber than bringing your pet dog to Vietnam.  But in this case, it was strictly a competitive block.  So what is my verdict?  I say “well done Ticket.”  Blocking a girl is not only acceptable, but should be encouraging.  Look, whenever you keep score in anything, the goal is to win.  I don’t care if it is Monopoly or the NBA championship, if you aren’t trying to win then you are as out of place as John Amaechi in the Vatican City.  The Ticket was doing what had to be done to help our team win that game, and that meant treating that girl like a Pinata at a birthday party full of 5-year olds.  So block away my male friends.  You have been given permission.

*Note- Woofing in a girls face is also encouraged.  Gotta let you know what’s up.

Hey guys thats great your company participate in a summer league for basketball, whether it be Ivy League type white guys or a bunch of discrutile postal workers, its a cool thing anyhow.Today,so many companies around the country are not so cohesive, with their workers.Ive worked for companies for years, and never knew where most of my coworker lived and breathe after work…people are not always so willing to bond with other coworkers outside of the office. Not that it matters,i was under the impression “Big Ticket” was African American, why?…there’s not a real reason, maybe because he is KG’s #1 fan, lol.I couldn’t have been any further from the truth, right?Im glad that someone share a lot of my views, about who i think has been, and still the most crismatic, and exciting player on the planet. When the day KG retires, the NBA will lose a lot of its appeal, unless they have cloned KG for the future.Paul Pierce on the otherhand, whenever he retires,it will probably take a full season to realize he is gone,That is because,he is not as loved and admired around the country as KG.Paul is loved in New England where i reside now,but thats where the buck stops. He probably has some fans here/there,but not in bunches as KG has.
Pierce in my book, has always been arrogant, and full of himself. He says its confidence,i say its being a little over the top, when you proclaim that you are the best player basically on this earth. What a arrogant player you are Paul Pierce. When i reflect on the entire playoff picture,KG carried the team most of the way, with his tenacious defense, rebounds, and most of the playoffs,he was hitting his pattened mid-range jumper.KG had a small offensive shooting slump, and the Celtics fan, media had a bird. They never stop to think,we wouldn’t be playing LA,if it wasn’t for KG’s consistency throughout.Paul Pierce came alive in the last few games of the Cleveland series, but the series and the playoffs would have been over it if depended on his play in the Hawks, and most of the Cleveland series,
KG your are simply the best,”better than all the rest”Tina Turner.Im KG’s #2 biggest fan, behind your resident Big Ticket.Paul Pierce from what i read lately, think its time for you to get back to work, and get off the Vegas strip.

Thanks for the comments bolvbbal. Yes, our boy Ticket is indeed white. I’m pretty sure he has all of Hutie and the Blowfish’s albums so that alone gives it away. He does love KG. Both of us do actually but his affinity for KG borders stalkerish behavior. Regardless, KG would have been proud of our resident KG fan’s tremendous block on this girl. Kept the ball in play, yet still managed to throw the ball with a ferociousness that KG would have appreciated. Thanks again for the comments and keep reading!

First, full marks to Big Ticket, not for the block, but for displaying the Second Jumpability to sky and snag the rebound. But in dealing with the fairer sex, I recommend that one demonstrate one’s masculinity (so there can be no doubt) but then show compassion, even humbleness. Doing such leads to many nights of, well, joy. The MIM code dictates that after rejecting the shot and showing massive 2nd Jumpability, a goofy grin and a soft spoken “here, take it out and try again as I did not mean to block your shot” would have caused the story to circulate throughout the office for days and weeks to come. And you will be well on your way to being Most Interesting to the ladies…. which is always a good thing, yes? Create legend… it’s a fantastic aphrodisiac. Stay thirsty my friends.
