Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Here is a quick and easy question. Which player would you rather have?

Player A: .295 BA, 16 HR, 96 RBI, 109 R, .767 OPS in 821 ABs.
Player B: .334 BA, 32 HR, 141 RBI, 124 R, .906 OPS in 800 ABs.

Player B, right? Good. Now for a slightly tougher question. Who do you think these two players are?

Well, you may have guessed, this is one of those annoying questions that can just wreck you for hours as you search through stat line after state line trying to get the answer…. only to frustratingly find out that it is the same freakin’ player!

We dont know what the hell youre doing every first half either, Robinson.

We don't know what the hell you're doing every first half either, Robinson.

In this case, Robinson Cano. ‘Player A’ is Cano’s pre-all star break stats over the past 3 seasons, while ‘Player B’ is his post-all star break numbers. Like clockwork, after the break Cano transforms from Juan Uribe to Joe Morgan. Take this year for example. So far, in 6 games since the break, Cano is batting .519 with 2 HR, 7 RBI, and a 1.334 OPS.

If you struggled through the first 95 games with Cano on your fantasy squad, congratulations. You’re about to be rewarded. If you traded him away in disgust, well, I can’t really blame you. But most importantly, if you don’t have him, try and get him. It may be too late (and should be if his fantasy managers have any brains), but it’s worth a shot.
